Locust Years   Run Time: 3:28

Written by Bill Mallonee for CyBrenJoJosh (BMI) ©1997

here's one more raw emotion to contend with
one last bullet to defend the fort with
i was drowning in complacency's cheap perfume
yeah licking my wounds

yeah one more specimen one with real potential
if the suit fits well you're looking quite presidential
i picked your face out of some police photos
yeah steps of the wicked overthrown

come have your way with me
come have your way with me
there's nothing left
there's nothing left to see

salome's over-weight she broke jacob's ladder
where the corpse is honey you know the vultures gather
yes i've always been taught that love was worth keeping
yeah truth worth believing

Did You Know?

The following lines were included in the album lyrics for "Locust Years," but were not included in the final recording:

why do i take inventory
and estimate my loss
why do i proceed with all due caution
to the foot of the cross?

This was one of Bill's picks (along with "Taking on Water") for the first single off of Slow Dark Train. "Love Cocoon" was instead picked by the label. This song was previously titled and performed as "Raw" before the release of Slow Dark Train. A couple scripture references in this one: Matthew 24:28: "Where the corspse is, there the vultures will gather"; Joel 2:25: "...And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten."

Appeared On…
