Those Heroes   Year: 2004

Written by Bill Mallonee for CyBrenJoJosh (BMI)

their risks are never easy but they see it black and white
they never dog-ear any pages of a paperback life
do they live inside a different skin well no that is the lie
but they seem to know exactly when the cavalry should arrive

heroes always walk the straighter line
heroes first at the scene of a crime
sometimes they are hard to find
unless you become one for yourself

sure it's a lot to ask even more so to explain
but they say that nothing ventured is always nothing gained
i would pull you up yeah and i would see you through
and if the need arose i'd lay my life down for you

heroes they can take any form
heroes most come without uniforms
heroes always easily impressed
unless you become one for yourself

heroes taking the whole world by storm
heroes like presents on Christmas morn
heroes usually drink alone i find
heroes usually in the nick of time
unless you become one for yourself

heroes on the backs of trading cards
heroes rake the leaves in their front yards
heroes always offer kindest words
most of them you've never heard of

heroes never have to eat much crow
and heroes they know how to speak in code
heroes don't know when to count the costs
and heroes sometimes wind up on a cross

Did You Know?

Bill describes this as a "very poppy trippy one." He also says it is a tip of the hat to Robyn Hitchcock.
