Silken Sheets   Year: 2004

Written by Bill Mallonee for CyBrenJoJosh (BMI)

these are days of anesthesia said the captain to the recruit
you should pray for amnesia should you and i live through
make sure your canteen's full make sure your flask is too
make sure your gun is loaded save the last bullet for you

it hides in halls of government
it hides on city streets
and it hides in hearts of men and women
sleeping under silken sheets

men have always gone to war it's in their hearts no doubt
since cain took his little brother out
the devil has disguises to accomplish his dark ways
he wears a flag in his lapel i've heard he can even pray

how can one describe a mother's grief when the cameras always distort
the sticky blood and last breaths through an ap wire report
there's the kingdom of God and the kingdom of man
as the days run more swiftly the latter i don't understand

it's flying through the air waves it's running through networks
it's creeping through collapsing veins of the whole universe
so whether under fluorescent lights or the neon of the streets
tonight it's sleeping comfortably under silken sheets

tanks drown out the orphan cries flags fly in the breeze
it's the language of wartime economics where a few palms get greased
it's the dumb teleprompter rhetoric as the smart bombs are released
it's the whisper of hate's politic from under silken sheets
