Where the Rubber Meets the Road   Year: 2004

Written by Bill Mallonee for CyBrenJoJosh (BMI) ©2004

i remember my voice was pretty trashed that night
i remember scandinavian starlight
walking city streets maybe crawling is closer to the truth
all hushed and humbled beneath a mirror ball moon

and you try not to get between
where the rubber meets the road
and you leave a little part of you
wherever you go

i forgot to wish you to wish you all the best
when i think of you there's this flutter in my chest
but baby i'm the punch line and baby i'm the joke
but never ceased to be amazed as to where God will go for broke

kid you'd best be looking forward 'cause you don't look back
i played a few old records that's how i came by that
spin them in the morning spin them after school
spin them in the midnight hour 'cause they made me think of you

if you come in here empty trusting only what you can touch
baby when you leave you'll take about as much
the trick is to pour out all the love that's in your cup
and give it all your heart till you're all used up

maybe you're after God more than likely He's after you
one thing that's for sure we've all got some explaining to do
small craft warning in effect tonight upon this ship of fools
sailing seven seas of regret with a skeleton crew

the diamond caught your eye
but you should have grabbed the pearl
but your hands are the never more empty
without a friend in the world
