That's What I Meant   Year: 2007 | Run Time: 6:17

Written by Bill Mallonee for CyBrenJoJosh (BMI)

talking through a strained phone line
trying to hold on to your words
seemed to slip right through our fingers
we all get what we deserve

oh to make the engine turn
to knock off some of the rust
oh to make your heart rejoice
and regain some of your trust

and when i said i missed you
the words came and went
when i said it's good to hear your voice
well that's what i meant

if we're just going through the motions
well i ain't holding my breath
waiting for the coin of kindness to drop
so i can save myself

never to be whole again
never quite to be restored
never quite to be forgiven
just a stranger at your door

heard a preacher say that there's a ladder
that disappears into His arms
if you're a praying man say one for me
well it won't do any harm

if i can loosen up your fist
make you let go of it whatever makes you afraid
if i can loosen up your tongue so praise would flow from your dungeon
where you chain up every day

and when i am discarded
my paper cup days all used up
when God looks down and says
hey kid enough is enough

could be i'm empty of a creed
and i'm shy on mystery
more like pulling on your boots
rolling up your shirt sleeves

Appeared On…
