California Blue   Year: 2007 | Run Time: 4:42

Written by Bill Mallonee for CyBrenJoJosh (BMI)

it's hard to build a house straight up from the ground
it pays to make sense when materials aren't sound
and none of them really are so when storms come around
it's hard to build a house but easy to knock down

who knows just what is sleeping what slumbers deep within
what company are you keeping underneath your skin
and it's all so disconcerting the debris from the wreck
no clemency deal with the hangman's noose around your stiff neck

the mission bells are ringing in some california blue
mary's near and her son's in there pulling just for you

i showed up in fifty five baptized in a creek
forgetting what to say before i learned to speak
the words came out all fractured when finally set down
the sentences were tainted but i rather liked the sound

Did You Know?

Bill says, "Muriah and I thought it was very Tom Petty-ish... 12-string again... but a bit sinister and spooky... wish we had a cello player next door... we call it the "dark Catholic song," with its Marian reference an such... Reading Paul Elie's "the life you save maybe your own," has spurned a lot of tunes lately.

Appeared On…
