Boxcar   Year: 1996 | Run Time: 3:45

Written by Bill Mallonee for CyBrenJoJosh (BMI)

crawled into this boxcar just a second before the sky split wide open
now we sing upon the silver
alternating combinations of rain and wind and now and then
beat against the walls of my train's slow progress

storm it's all around me
inside like to drown me
songs from the psalter on my tongue

hiss and steel of remembering
straining metal murmuring
slow collide of shifting weight and tension
my apprehension

cadences you think you hear become definitely clear
mutate then vanish swallowed by another march
pockets of my unwashed jeans have crumpled hymns and requiems
i read them believe them hold them in the highest honor

scarecrow across the channel clock strikes twelve upon the mantel
tattered flannel flapping in the wind and clothes the same as i
rags that serve the bare minimum like soiled and failed repentances
unserved jail sentences swept away in your flood

storm it's all around me
inside like to drown me
oh taste and see the Lord is good

Appeared On…
